Allegiance Health is a community-owned, locally governed health system in Jackson, Michigan.  They combine hospital-based care with a full range of services for all members of the community.  Allegiance is a leader in forming community partnerships, which innovatively addresses wellness, and preventative needs. They are proudly entering their 10th decade of serving the people of south central Michigan with local, high-quality care.

The 480-bed system provides a full range of inpatients and outpatient services. The 20-bed cardiac universal bed unit treats heart surgery patients, and has as outpatient surgery center for same-day procedures. The Gayle M. Jacob Cancer Center offers state of the art care in a unique healing environment, and is the only residential hospice in the region. The Emergency Department receives an average of 81,000 visits annually.

The medical staff is comprised of more than 400 physicians and 3,700 staff members. Their Clinically Integrated Network of physicians is preparing for population health and the transformation necessary for health care reform. Allegiance is nationally recognized for quality and patient safety. Recent examples include the Health grades 2013 Patient Safety Excellence Award and the America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award. Their mission is to lead their community to better health and well being at every stage of life. Their vision is to create Michigan’s healthiest community through exceptional health care and inspiring a passion for wellness. Their vales are the attitudes, mindsets, beliefs and norms that determine how work is accomplished and how we interact with each other and with our customers. Values are the tools needed to accomplish our vision (Allegiance Health, 2013). Internal Factors

Internal Factors are those factors, which exist within the premises of an organization, and directly affects the different operations carried out in a business. An internal factor that affects the business at Allegiance is that they are a community-owned health system, and support for Allegiance from residents and businesses means a lot. The Allegiance Health Foundation believes that giving to the organizations they are deeply committed to benefits not only those organizations, but their community and themselves as well.

The Foundation began in 2008 to build this support for Allegiance Health, in partnership with individuals, businesses, foundations and local government partners. Their valued contributions of time, money and other gifts will make it possible for them to provide the highest quality health care at the lowest possible costs to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. With the Jackson community’s help, they look forward to building and sustaining this important work (Allegiance Health, 2013).

A strong internal factor at allegiance is their human resources department, which is an important factor for any organization as it contributes to the strengths and weakness of any organization. Allegiance is committed to supporting its managers and staff throughout this continuous ever-growing process, and to developing new tools and resources for facilitating change. Productivity within a health care organization can be quite a difficult task. Total labor expense for healthcare provider organizations can exceed 50 percent of a hospital's operating costs and 90 percent of its variable costs. The ability to reduce labor costs by even a very small percentage is critical to increasing the operating margin and helping grow the bottom line (Measuring Productivity, n.d).
