How Health Insurance is affecting the Economy

This essay will explain some of the effects of how health insurance is affecting the economy. It will explain some of the differences that rich and poor people have in health insurance and how that affects the economy. Health Insurance is a big issue in today’s economy and many Americans cannot afford it. “With larger differences in income, individuals who are willing or able to pay more for their own protection, require a higher level of protection.” (Journal of Society Para 2)

Thousands of Americans cannot afford health insurance so they do not go to the doctor for regular health check-ups. Many of these Americans have many health problems that are left untreated. By these health problems being untreated it can eventually lead to frequent trips to the emergency room or in some cases even death. Most insurance companies assess which risks can be quantified (more precisely, theoretically, it is possible to determine the likelihood of any risks, but each defined probability is likely to have financial and economic case and justification.” (Journal of Society Para 3)
There are plans set in motion to help people afford health insurance. “The Passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) in March 2010 represents a significant turning point in the evolution of health care law and policy in the U.S.” (Journal of Law, Medicine, and Ethics Para 1) But, even with these plans set into motion the ultimate effects and significance of the ACA remain uncertain.” (Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics Para 1) Meaning that with this new act many of Americans are still without health insurance.
