Freddie Mercury Eulogy Speech
When I was asked to write a speech for Freddie’s memorial service, I didn’t want to do it. I knew that once I got up on this stage today, everything would become real. My band mate, my best friend, has died. At least that is what they are telling me. But, I know that he is not really gone. He will remain in the hearts of people he was close to, and in the hearts of his fans forever. Freddie Mercury is not someone you can forget about. It’s just not humanly possible. He was admired by everyone who was lucky enough to know him, and his legacy will live on for many years to come. When I first met him, I knew that he was someone I wanted to be around as much as possible. He was so vibrant, and always laughing. I remember one of our first gigs. Before we went on, he told me, “Just be yourself and try to make the crowd happy. All you have to do is wear some tight pants and the female fans will be fighting for autographs”, he said as he pulled out a pair of purple spandex pants. I instantaneously blushed and said, “No way, that’s your thing”. He then told me that I just needed to live a little, and from that point on, I did. He influenced me to do what I want, and be who I am without caring who sees. That’s how Freddie lived his life. He couldn’t care less about what other people thought of him. He didn’t live by the rules, and honestly that was my favorite thing about him. It’s inhumane that we are forced to live in a world no longer containing Freddie mercury. This vibrant, and passionately creative man surely couldn’t have been extinguished in the prime of his life? Freddie was denied the privilege of growing old, but in 44 years he packed in enough living for a dozen lifetimes. His head was full of great dreams and the certainty that they could be achieved. At the age of 20 he already lived the dreams. He became an all new person, more fierce and courageous. Perhaps in changing his name just...
